Official Opening of Community Integration Units at HMP Greenock

William Stuart, Governor at HMP Greenock, is pleased to host today’s official opening ceremony of the two newly built Community Integration Units.

The aim of these units is to provide an environment that will allow smoother transition from custody to community for suitable short term prisoners. The ethos being developed is one with more emphasis placed on support rather than supervision. All occupants of the CIUs will benefit from community living, a close working relationship with the staff and a greater emphasis on working with community partners and service providers.

The two units are Arran, which holds a maximum of eight males, and Bute, which holds up to six females.

The CIUs will build upon the already established work in the area of throughcare support developed at HMP Greenock.

The opening ceremony will be conducted by Mr Dan Gunn and Lady Martha Bruce, former Governors at HMP Greenock.
