Remembrance events have been held across our prisons, giving our staff and those in our care the opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all our armed forces.

Staff have laid wreaths at Cenotaphs in villages and towns local to establishments

Officer Adam Bickerstaff of HMP Perth, was selected to represent the SPS at the Cenotaph, in London, on Remembrance Sunday.

Adam served in the RAF Regiment for 22 years prior to joining SPS. He was one of 150 individuals who made up this years’ Civilian Service Contingencies (CSC). The CSC forms twenty-five percent of the static guard of honour around the Cenotaph, taking their place on Whitehall, alongside the Army, the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, during the laying of wreaths by His Majesty.

Many of our establishments have memorial gardens, designed and maintained by those in our care as place to remember those who have lost their lives.

This year, individuals in HMP Barlinnie, working in the metal fabrication shed, crafted a Lancaster bomber and poppy sculpture which now proudly sits in the establishment's gardens and will be used for services for years to come.
