HMP Perth’s Employability Academies are continuing to deliver measurable success, supporting individuals in custody to gain industry-recognised qualifications and secure meaningful pathways into employment upon release.
Working in close partnership with leading employers and educational institutions, the Academies have achieved significant results across multiple sectors. To date, 16 participants have successfully completed SVQ Level 5 qualifications in Mechanics, with a further 8 individuals due to complete later this month. In the construction sector, 11 individuals have attained Level 5 Civil Engineering qualifications, with several progressing into further education and so far, four have secured employment.
In hospitality, 21 individuals have achieved qualifications and 14 of those have been offered employment upon release, with many working right now in roles across the UK.
In addition, the Dundee and Angus Cycle Hub and Bike Academy is providing hands-on experience and training as well as a range of opportunities for people in custody to get involved in supporting valuable community projects.
A key element of the programme’s success is its structured approach, supporting individuals from recovery into employability. Through collaboration with community partners, including Westbank in Perth, individuals are able to continue receiving support beyond custody. This ensures that those who complete the Academies are well-positioned to sustain employment, access community-based opportunities, and continue to make positive progress on release.
HMP Perth would like to extend its sincere thanks to its partners, whose collaboration and commitment are integral to the delivery and continued success of the Employability Academies. These include Perth and Kinross Council, Dundee City Council, Dundee and Angus College, Fife College, South Lanarkshire College, Toyota, CECA, Greene King, and Dundee and Angus Cycle Hub and Only a Pavement Away.
Together, these partnerships are helping to create positive futures, reduce reoffending, and build stronger communities.
