SMART Recovery Training

On 7th and 8th July, at HMP Inverness, Trish Allan, Scottish national SMART co-ordinator, will deliver a peer facilitator training course for nine volunteers and service users in recovery, from the community, in addition to five prisoners actively engaged with the prison’s own SMART group.

Sharon Holloway, Highland ADP Development Manager says

‘I would like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to the Prison Management/Staff Team and to Trish from SMART for agreeing to co-ordinate and deliver this peer mentor training opportunity. As some of you will be aware this is the first time in Scotland that community and prison peer mentors have come together  to receive SMART training. This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone and really does highlight what can be achieved by working together to promote Recovery and mutual aid groups.’

The hope is that the prisoners trained will start taking a lead in the internal SMART meetings and then take their learned skills and experience into the community when released, to set up and take part in SMART groups across the Highland region.  At HMP Inverness we believe we can build Recovery – From the Inside Out.
