Earl of Wessex Visits HMYOI Polmont
HRH the Earl of Wessex visited HMYOI Polmont last week. This was a great opportunity to show case a range of work being delivered in the establishment and to highlight the achievement of some of the Young People who have completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award while in our care.

The Earl spent time in the faith space and inclusion unit chatting with staff and young people about their work and journey. He then spent time with young people in education and talking around their learning and aspirations. He also spent time with young people who are completing the Parenting course, where some time was spent discussing the difficulties of bathing a baby! The Earl then presented Duke of Edinburgh awards to six young people, before spending time at Inside Radio, HMYOI Polmont’s own radio station. He completed his visit with a demonstration of the work the young people do with re-homing dogs in the Paws for Progress work area.

Tommy Watt, Head of Offender Outcomes commented that “the day was a great success and that all the young people the Earl meet were a credit to themselves and the staff they work with here at HMYOI Polmont”.
