It is acknowledged that the number of people in prison with social care need is a growing issue in Scotland. While the NHS provides health care services in prisons in Scotland local authorities do not provide social care in prisons.

This DIPLAR report should be completed following all deaths in prison. All sections of this form must be completed.

This document outlines the Scottish Prison Service Policy/Guidance in relation to Death in Prison Learning Audit and Review (DIPLAR).

This document is a binding agreement for data sharing between the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) and NHS Boards, hereafter referred to as ‘partners’.

Responsibility for the provision of healthcare services to prisoners will transfer from the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) to Health Boards on 1 November 2011. The Prison Directions and Guidance are therefore given to Health Boards to make provision by Health Boards of health care to prisoners in prisons.

From 1 November 2011, the responsibility for providing prisoner health care transfers to the NHS. This transition should help to improve the provision of throughcare to the prisoner population and lead to a more “joined up” approach to this issue in our prisons.

Embedded smoking cessation culture in prisons - next steps.

This paper seeks agreement for the introduction of a new smoking policy in Scottish prisons.

The policy is being reviewed as part of the scheduled three-year policy review process.

The aim of the Scottish Prison Service Whistleblowing Policy is to; Assist us in the early detection of any inappropriate behaviour or practices.
