The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has announced two new appointments to its executive leadership team as the organisation continues to manage significant population pressures across Scotland's prison estate.
Scotland's prison population reached record levels earlier this year, with forecasts indicating further increases in the months ahead. At the same time, SPS is managing an increasingly complex population, including a growing number of individuals with mental health and social care needs, as well as an increasing cohort of people involved in serious and organised crime groups.
In June, the Scottish Government launched a consultation on sentencing reform, community justice and release arrangements as part of wider efforts to address pressures across the justice system. Plans have also been announced to expand the prison estate and increase capacity to support the future operation of Scotland's prisons.
To ensure the organisation is well placed to respond to these immediate challenges while preparing for longer-term reform, SPS is strengthening its executive leadership capacity.
Following a Senior Civil Service recruitment exercise, SPS is pleased to announce the appointments of:
• Adam Jobson as Deputy Chief Executive - People, Strategy and Performance
• Andy Rogers as Deputy Chief Executive - Chief Operating Officer
The appointments have been made for an initial period of 12 months.
