HMP Low Moss have launched a ‘life skills’ programme to help better prepare individuals for life after prison.

The four week programme was designed collaboratively with SPS partners Fife College, the Wise Group, DWP, prison-based social work, NHS, Lifelink and Citizens Advice.

An area within the establishment’s Links Centre has been developed to replicate studio-style accommodation complete with domestic cookers to learn basic cooking skills. The programme also covers topics such as citizenship skills, maintaining a tenancy, budgeting, CV writing and basic IT and decoration skills.

So far 15 individuals have completed the programme since it was launched at the end of November. A further 60 have been referred, with the next intake due to start on February 19th.

The feedback from participants so far has been exceptionally positive, with one person stating, “it makes me feel human again”.
