Starting School Event at HMP Low Moss
Following on from last year’s success, Low Moss once again held the ‘First Day at School’ event. This event was organised to allow fathers in custody to share their child’s experience of starting school. A total of 18 fathers got involved in this event and this led to a total of 35 children attending with 19 of them experiencing either primary or secondary school that day for the first time.
The event allowed those attending the opportunity to get family photographs taken with the children in their school uniform. School starter packs, applicable to age, had been arranged and were given to the children by their fathers at the event. Also on hand was Early Years Scotland which meant that there was the opportunity for the children to get involved in some Arts and Craft activities with their parents. A great time was had by everyone involved on the day.
Representation on the night from East Dunbartonshire Education Services, Families Outside and “Shine for Kids” - an organisation who do significant work within the Australian Correctional Service, showed the valuable work happening within the SPS to assist in strengthening family relationships.
