As a large public sector organisation, the Scottish Prison Service requires a great variety of different skillsets and abilities in order to function.

Within our prison establishments, Headquarters in Edinburgh and our training college at Polmont, we have a wide variety of business functions that support our Mission of creating a safer Scotland.

While Prison Officers are directly responsible for the security and rehabilitation of prisoners, their work requires support and facilitation from a number of other activities and business functions – all of which require the work of skilled and committed people.

Chaplaincy careers

Prison Chaplains offer a listening ear to all, whether of any faith or none. Our chaplains offer a person-centred approach, emotional support, spiritual and religious care.

Finance careers

We offer a range of career opportunities in the Financial Policy & Services Department, from Finance Apprenticeships to qualified accountant's roles.

HR and recruitment careers

Within each prison a team of HR professionals provide HR advice, guidance and support across a range of HR policies and practices.

Learning and development careers

We have a small team of leadership and management development specialists working from our college in Polmont, near Falkirk.

Procurement careers

We offer careers in procurement in our Headquarters, College and all Prison locations.

Psychology careers

There are three specific Psychology roles within the service: Forensic Psychologist in Training; Psychology Manager; and Head of Psychology.
