The safest and most cost-efficient way of transferring the money to your loved one is over online banking; details on how to do this are available for all SPS prisons – which excludes HMP Addiewell and HMP Kilmarnock.

To use the tool below:

  1. Enter prisoner’s number and press confirm.
  2. Enter prisoner’s date of birth from the calendar picker.
  3. When you click "Generate Reference" your new reference number will be shown.
  4. Use your reference number as the payee reference in online banking.
This must be between 1001 – 300000

After generating the reference number

Use the following account number and sort code for the new payee:

  • Account Name: Scottish Prison Service Prisoner Funds Central
  • Account No.: 21170685
  • Sort Code: 83-06-08

How much can I send my loved one?

There is a limit of £50.00 per prisoner, per day. Any amount exceeding this will be returned to sender. We endeavour to return any rejected amounts within 10 working days of receipt.

My loved one is HMP Addiewell or HMP Kilmarnock, how can I send money in?

  • Money can be sent in via Royal Mail or through their Secure Payment Service To transfer money, you must follow these steps.

    1. Log into www.secure-payment-services.com and follow steps to sign up or log in
    2. Click add recipient if first time user (Establishment, Name and Number)
    3. Click make transfer and select recipient from list
    4. Input amount and confirm bank details Just to advise there is a maximum amount of £50 per recipient per transfer.

This is a total amount for ALL SECURE PAYMENT SERVICES USERS, not just your account, so if the recipient has already received payments from other people, you may not be able to send any funds to them until after the next working day transfer has been made.

Also if you have multiple recipients an overall payment limit will apply and you can send a maximum of 10 transactions per week with a maximum total value of £250.

There is a minimum amount of £5.

Posting money

Can I post money to my loved one?

Yes, however this is at your own risk and expense. It can also take slightly longer to process.

We recommend using recorded/special delivery and including your details on the back of the letter.

What if they didn’t receive the money?

You can check the status of Recorded Delivery items with the Post Office via their Tracking System.
