We offer careers in procurement in our Headquarters, College and all Prison locations. The Procurement Department at our Headquarters in Edinburgh has a strong commercial focus and reputation for progressive procurement.

With an annual budget of more than £300Mn (approximately £160Mn is directly contracted via procurement), our procurement careers are rewarding and offer the potential for professional development and progression.

The department undertakes contract development activity across the full spectrum of SPS requirements and provides contract management oversight for typically 250+ contracts. This includes ensuring that SPS procurement activity is compliant with the various regulatory obligations relating to public procurement.

The well-established team retains an inspiring and high profile status in Scottish Public Sector Procurement. SPS achieved recognition through the Government Opportunities (GO) awards:

  • “GO Procurement People of Today and Tomorrow Award” GO Awards Scotland 2016/17
  • “GO Procurement Innovation / Initiative of the Year Award – Buyer – Other” GO UK National Public Procurement Awards 2017/18

We periodically recruit for procurement roles, with particular focus on commercially-minded, experienced candidates from both private and public sectors. We have also engaged candidates at graduate and undergraduate level on either a fixed term or permanent basis. The procurement function has also assumed a broader commercial role within SPS, which includes management of the SPS national logistics facility, and sourcing partners to provide work based purposeful activity for those in custody.

All procurement posts offer excellent career prospects through competitive salaries, support to engage in continued training and to secure professional accreditation (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply), and to have a real pathway to professional development within SPS. Moreover, our roles and the contracts we establish and manage on behalf of SPS offer an opportunity to make a genuine impact to meeting SPS’ operational and organisational outcomes.
