When a loved one passes away in prison it can be difficult to recover from the grief of the loss in such circumstances.
The Family Support Booklet provides information about the help and support available from the prison for families, for those who are feeling distressed, for children and young people, for dealing with bereavement, and about other advisory support and resources.
The Booklet also provides information about particular Reviews and Inquiries that take place when a person dies while in the care of the prison service.
The Family Support Booklet has been produced by SPS, in partnership with NHS and Families Outside, after an extensive consultation process, including feedback from families who have lost a relative in custody.
