Last month, the Offender Outcomes Group within HMP Barlinnie held a fortnight of activities and events to promote mental health awareness.

The ‘Mental Health & Wellbeing Spring Fling’ included a 5k fun run within the prison grounds involving 144 staff and individuals in our care. There was also a football tournament involving teams from all the residential halls, as well as a staff team.

The Wellbeing Centre facilitated some team building events and hosted a music concert, while the Resource Hub ran various competitions and put on a comedy show.

A sports panel including Greenock Morton Manager Dougie Imrie; former Dundee United, Kilmarnock and Scotland internationalist Andy McLaren and former player, now Assistant Manager at Kilmarnock FC Alan Archibald, took part in a Q&A, speaking about mental health within football.

The event finished up with guest speaker John Gahagan performing an after dinner set in the prison chapel for almost 100 individuals in our care.
