The Vision for Justice in Scotland

Yesterday, Keith Brown, the Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Veterans, announced the Scottish Government’s new ‘Vision for Justice in Scotland’. This document outlines priorities and plans for the justice system in Scotland from now until 2026.

The vision is for a “just, safe, resilient Scotland” where all parts of the justice system must deliver person-centred services and enshrine trauma informed practice.

The new strategy sets out key priorities – making sure victims voices are heard, placing women and children at the heart of service delivery and reassessing the role that prisons and the use of imprisonment should play.

Scottish Government have already committed to a number of transformative actions by setting out bold and progressive plans for a new women’s custodial estate for Scotland. Further commitments include a new health and wellbeing strategy for prisons and a new trauma framework giving staff the knowledge and skills to embed trauma-informed practices.
