Cornton Vale Prison - Visiting

How To Book Family/Friend Visit:

All visits are booked by the prisoner who should inform you of the date and time once the request has been granted.

How To Book Agent Visit:

Agents must phone in to the prison picking the visits option when prompted or Ext. 5209. They then book a time slot. (See visit times below) On arrival solicitors must produce a valid law society card or professional credentials in the case of social workers.

Visiting Guidelines:

Visitors must arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for booking in. When booking in at the window in the waiting area all visitors over 16 must provide photographic I.D. (Photographic I.D. can be ordered free of charge from www.citizencard.com, forms are available from officers if required.)

The visits waiting room has toilet and baby change facilities. All belongings, except loose change, must be placed in a locker before entering the visit room, lockers require £1 coin.

The visit room can accommodate 11 visits at any one time. There are vending machines selling hot and cold drinks, crisps and sweets, please ensure you have change as officers do not carry any. You shall be called up the stairs by an officer, on entering the visit room all adults shall be searched (in accordance with rule 102 of The Prisons and Young Offenders Institutions (Scotland) Rules 2006). This is done by an officer of the same sex; you will be asked if you have anything on your person which may harm either yourself or the officer. The search will involve removing and hanging up any outer garments, opening your mouth for an oral examination and a rub down search which involves the officer giving a hands on outer clothing search.

You have the opportunity to refuse this search but please be aware that declining will result in you being refused entry to the visit room.

The officer shall direct you to a table where you sit - the prisoner you are visiting will already be seated.

Parking Facilities:

Parking is limited at Cornton Vale. Please park in the visitors' parking area only which is situated to the rear of the prison. Please do not use the private residential area opposite the establishment.

Disabled Facilities:

Disabled parking spaces are available for visitors. Please phone before visiting and you will be directed to these spaces. If you have any special needs that you feel may restrict your visit contact any member of staff. For those who are unable to climb the stairs to the visit room, mobility visits are available.
