Addiewell Prison - History
HMP Addiewell was opened in December 2008 and is a 700 place male prison for the Scottish Prison Service at Addiewell, near West Calder in West Lothian. In line with Sodexo Justice Services other custodial projects, the prison was delivered on time, within budget and attained all major milestones during the start-up period.
Addiewell reached full capacity by February 27 2009 and within its first year was awarded with an 'Eat Safe Award' by the environmental health office for excellent standards of cleanliness and good practices within the catering department. The prison also had the first prisoners to complete a COVAID (Control of Violence for Angry Impulsive Drinkers) cognitive-behavioural programme, pilot the Goals mentoring scheme and by October 2009 seven prisoners completed a newly designed programme called MMSU (Managing My Substance Use).
