SPS Receives Recognition from Stonewall Scotland

Last night the Scottish Prison Service was honored at Stonewall Scotland’s Top Scottish Employers launch event with a Special Recognition Award for our progressive policy on the treatment of trans people in custody.

We are delighted to receive this award for our policy. Its person-centred approach reflects our desire to ensure that we take the necessary steps to understand and meet the needs of all transgender prisoners, and that at all times whilst in custody trans people are treated with dignity and respect.  This policy represents the culmination of dedicated and genuine partnership working with a range of organisations, in particular with the Scottish Transgender Alliance.  The respect, dedication, drive, commitment and expertise that we were given freely by everyone concerned ensured that this policy reflects our desire for those in custody, families, visitors, or those who work in our prisons, to know that they will be valued and respected for who they are, reflecting our values of diversity and inclusion.
