"Creating Space for Change" Symposium

On 23rd February, a Symposium on Prisoner Reintegration was held at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, with the theme of “Creating Space for Change”. Colin McConnell, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service, The Right Reverend John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Professor Fergus McNeill, Chair of Criminology and Social Work, University of Glasgow, Very Reverend Susan MacDonald, Dean of Edinburgh and the Reverend Brian Gowans, President of the International Catholic Commission on Prisoners Pastoral Care were the key-note speakers and panellists for the event.

The Symposium recognised the benefits of partnership working, with prisons and communities working together, in mutual support of those of our citizens who are, or have been, in custodial care. The question of “how we create space for change” invites us to reflect on what might be needed to support communities in integrating citizens returning to them.

A compendium of symposium papers on the “Creating Space for Change” theme was compiled and can be found here.
