Procurement Careers

We offer careers in procurement in all our prison locations, Headquarters and College. The Procurement Department at our Headquarters in Edinburgh has a strong commercial focus and reputation for progressive procurement.   The well-established team retains an inspiring and high profile status in Scotland being recent winners in the 2014 GO Procurement Excellence in Scotland awards.   With an annual budget of more than £300Mn (approximately £160Mn is directly contracted via procurement), our procurement careers are understandably rewarding, progressive and hugely satisfying for the high calibre and commercially astute applicant.   We undertake contract development activity across the full spectrum of SPS requirements, provide contract management oversight for the awarded contracts (typically 250+ contracts), and also ensure that SPS procurement activity is compliant with the various regulatory obligations relating to public procurement.

We periodically recruit for procurement roles, with particular focus on commercially-minded, experienced candidates from both private and public sectors. We have also engaged candidates at graduate and undergraduate level on either a fixed term or permanent basis.   The procurement function has also assumed a broader commercial role within SPS, which includes management of the SPS national logistics facility, and sourcing partners to provide work based purposeful activity for those in custody.

All procurement posts offer excellent career prospects through competitive salaries, support to engage in continued training and to secure professional accreditation (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply), and to have a real pathway to professional development within SPS.  Moreover, our roles and the contracts we establish and manage on behalf of SPS offer an opportunity to make a real impact to meeting SPS’ operational and organisational outcomes.
