Integrated Case Management (ICM) and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA)

The Interventions Team also include members of staff who work specifically with ICM and MAPPA related matters.

ICM

The Integrated Case Management (ICM) system provides the joint case management structure between the SPS and community based criminal justice social work for prisoners subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 or those offenders convicted of offences and sentenced to 4 years or more and subject to supervision on release. Also included in the ICM process are those prisoners subject to supervised release orders and extended sentences regardless of the length of sentence.

For those offenders who will be subject to a period of post release supervision, the SPS will at the start of sentence, identify and designate a local authority that will be responsible for the supervision of the offender on release The local authority will thereafter appoint a named supervising officer responsible for making and maintaining contact with the prisoner and, where appropriate, his/her family during and after sentence.

MAPPA

Is a set of arrangements established by the police, local authorities and prison service to assess and manage the risk posed by sexual and violent offenders.

The Principles that govern MAPPA are:

*  Identify who may pose a risk of harm

*  Share relevant information about them

*  Assess the nature and extent of that risk

*  Find ways to defensibly manage the risk effectively, at the lowest possible level, protecting victims and reducing further harm.
