Control of Anger Related Emotions (CARE)
(SPS Revised Anger Management Programme)
The programme is 25 sessions long and will run twice a week.
Each session should last 2 hours.
The purpose of the programme is not to force group members to change, but rather to provide them with the opportunity to think about change and the consequences of this.
The programme is not about anger per se, but rather emotional control. So, although anger will be concentrated on as the main emotion, there will also be opportunities to concentrate on the management of negative emotions/moods.
Rationale
People with anger problems often feel little desire to change or control their anger. They view themselves as victims of injustice (DiGiuseppe, 2001) and therefore often engage in treatment in order to change their transgressors or to vent their upset about being the target of unfair treatment. It is therefore important to firstly assist individuals, through a process of facilitation, to recognise and agree with the therapeutic goal of anger reduction in order that they will actively engage with the intervention
